Our Future and Estate Planning page has been updated with new contact names and some additional information, including a very informative slide show.

A big THANK YOU to all of the players, sponsors, donors, and volunteers at this year's Trivia Playoff. This event raised over $9,000! All proceeds help support individuals with developmental disabilities in Frederick County. See you next year!

April 2008

Nifty! The Arc's Trivia Playoff fundraiser will be held on April 11. Still time to sign your team up. And spectator passes will be available the night of the event. Just stop in to enjoy all the fun, including food, drinks, the silent auction, door prizes, trivia, and Chef Buck's soda fountain! This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Be there or be square!

Did you receive a tax refund this year? If so, please consider donating part of it to The Arc. If you owe on April 15, your accountant may recommend that you plan ahead for next year. In addition to cash, you may want to consider donating stock or real estate holdings, or setting up a Charitable Remainder Trust to benefit The Arc or our Endowment Fund.

Want to volunteer? New volunteer opportunities have been added to our site.

Our Summer Camp Guide has been updated for 2008. As always, we encourage parents and guardians to contact the camps directly for more information, but we hope our list is a good starting point.

The March/April edition of our newsletter, The Link has been posted. Don't forget that you can automatically receive a copy of The Link by joining The Arc.

Pull that poodle skirt out of the closet, dust off those 45 records, and join us at the 23rd Annual Trivia Playoff on April 11. This fun-filled evening features prizes, food, beverages, and of course, trivia. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Hope to see you there!

It's not too late to get your tickets for the Frederick County Bar Association's Art Auction, to be held Friday, March 14. Contact Beate at 301-663-0909 for more information. All proceeds from the ticket sales, sponsorships, art sales, and silent auction benefit The Arc.

Our Fiscal Year 2007 Annual Report has been posted to our website. Everyone who donated during FY 2007 (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007) should receive a copy in the mail. If you did not get a copy and would like one, please contact our office at 301-663-0909 and we will be happy to send one to you. Thanks for helping us make FY 2007 a very successful year.


February 2008

Updated February 28 - After reading the articles in this week's Frederick News-Post, many people have wondered how they can help John Baker and other individuals who are moving out on their own. Please see our "Donate" page to learn how you can make a real difference.

The Arc is proud to have been selected the beneficiary for this year's Charity Art Auction, hosted by the Bar Association of Frederick County. We hope to see you there on March 14.

Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, child care providers, and anyone who wants to support The Arc! In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, and to raise funds for the "Real World" experience, we are selling tickets to a custom-designed children's playhouse. Approximate value of the playhouse is $3,200. Raffle tickets are only $5.00!

Also added to our site -- one-page brochures about many of our supports, services, and activities.

Happy New Year! This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Arc of Frederick County. We are very proud of our accomplishments over the years, and we have several exciting events planned for 2008. Check back for more details, or please consider making this the year you volunteer for one of these activities. What a great time to get involved!

Are you a brother or sister of a kid with a developmental disability, or do you know someone who is? The Arc's popular SibShop events give kids a chance to talk about what it's like having a sibling with a developmental disability ... and have lots of fun, too!

Planning for emergencies is important for everyone, and it presents different challenges for people with disabilities. Our Emergency Preparedness page can help people with disabilities and their families think about ways they can prepare for disasters before they happen. We hope our "Grab and Go Emergency Book" is especially helpful.

The Arc of Frederick County has been added to Wikipedia! Please visit our listing to learn more about what we do. We are excited to be part of this world-wide web project.

A big "thank you" to all of the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and donors who participated in our Captain's Choice Golf Tournament. One of our most important fundraisers, held this year on September 24, raised over $21,000! All proceeds stay here in Frederick County to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Hope to see you all again next year.

Our latest newsletter has been added to our site. The Link is sent to all members of The Arc. It contains lots of information about our agency, our activities and services, and ways to be involved.

Here's a fun, short-term volunteer opportunity. In 2008, The Arc of Frederick County will be celebrating 50 years of service to the Frederick community, with a variety of events from January - December of 2008. If you would like to be part of planning these events, the first meeting will be at The Arc's office on Thursday, August 9th. More information is on our Volunteer page. We'd love to see you there!

Speaking of loving to see you there -- please join us for our Captain's Choice Golf Tournament on September 24. The registration form gives all the details. This is a wonderful fundraiser for The Arc, and the golfers always have a fabulous time.

People interested in becoming a skills educator or respite care provider can now print the entire application packet to save a trip to our office.

Move volunteer opportunities have been added to our site.

Skills Educators and Respite Care Providers now have a newsletter just for them. You can download a copy from our Print Resources page.

We've made some address changes changes on the Attorney List, which is on our Futures Planning page.

The holidays are right around the corner. As you make your list and check it twice, consider shopping online to help support The Arc. Or make an online donation to The Arc and will will send a personalized letter to the recipient to notify them of your generous gift.

Congratulations to Joanna Pierson, The Arc of Frederick County's Executive Director, for receiving an award from the Frederick County Commission on Disabilities. Well deserved!

The Arc is delighted to announce that our Endowment Fund has reached the $1 million goal. Our Endowment Fund is designed to assist families in planning for the future. We thank our many contributors for making this goal a reality.

It's not too late to sign up for our Captain's Choice Scramble. Join in the fun, enjoy a round of golf, lots of prizes, and a delicious luncheon while supporting The Arc.

Updated January 11 - New Year, New Job? See the openings that have been added to our Employment Opportunities page.

The new year brings some exciting changes for part of The Arc. On January 1, our Service Coordination Division became its own agency, Service Coordination, Inc. Nothing has changed to the Support Services we provide in Frederick County. We look forward to continuing our long tradition of providing advocacy, resources, and connections to individuals with developmental disabilities in Frederick County.

The January/February edition of The Link has been added to our site. The newsletter is sent to everyone who is a member of The Arc.
