 Volunteer & Employment

  • We need volunteers to help at our front desk!  Although we have started using voice mail, we are looking for volunteers to assist us at our front desk to greet visitors and answer an occasional "operator" phone call.  At this time, volunteers are needed for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, 1:00-5:00.  Occasional on-call volunteers are also needed for backup coverage (great for someone with other commitments who is only available to fill in).  No experience is necessary, but the ability to maintain confidentiality is a must.  Please contact Karla Robeson at 301-663-0909 ext.40 or email her at KRobeson@arcfc.org for a volunteer application and for more information.
  • Drivers wanted! Many of the individuals we support need a ride to get to and from medical appointments, self advocacy meetings, and adult education classes.  If you are able to help out with transportation, please contact Karla Robeson at 301-663-0909 ext.40 or email her at KRobeson@arcfc.org.
  • A Handy Volunteer is needed! The Arc is looking for someone to help as needed with minor office maintenance, such as changing fluorescent light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, repairing leaky faucets, occasional touch-up painting, etc. Your volunteer service could save us the cost of hiring a professional and those funds would remain in the essential services and programs for the people we support. All volunteer work would be on-call, during Arc office hours. Perfect opportunity for a retired person or stay-at-home parent. Interested? Please contact The Arc, 301-663-0909.
  • Volunteers for our monthly Parents' Day Out Program -- One Saturday per month, August through June we provide 4 hours of respite time for parents and children. This is a great opportunity for teens, college students, and adults to help children with disabilities while having a lot of fun. Training is provided. Please contact Angela at 301-663-0909 ext. 27 for a volunteer application.
  • Do you enjoy sharing your time and activities?  You will meet someone who shares your interests and would enjoy going with you to the movies, concerts, shopping, the library or sight seeing. You may simply relax with a picnic and a visit to a local park.  Friendships are welcome!
  • Volunteer to share your expertise.    Volunteer mentors are always appreciated! Could you help someone learn about your favorite hobby or skill? Any life skill that you would like to share with another could be helpful.  Some examples are:
      - Cooking skills
      - Computer skills
      - Photography
      - Art
      - Budgeting

For more information and a volunteer application, contact Karla at The Arc: 301-663-0909 ext.40, or download our application, and send it to:
